Course Overview

In this 10 Week Master Class, award-winning artist for Marvel's The Avengers, Kris Costa, will give you an inside look at his workflow for film. To be a character artist, you need to know how to model, sculpt, texture, shade, light and composite your final character, all while making it look realistic and believable. Kris is going to show you how!

Step one in your journey toward creating your own stunning still render will be an in-depth look at anatomy. Kris will not only cover the basics, but will discuss anatomical flow, and train you to see the patterns in the human form. Kris will also share with you his various modeling and sculpting techniques. Learn to sculpt a skull, the body, hands, feet, arms, accessories and more.

Next, Kris will teach you his process for texturing characters. Then Kris will continue his work in Maya, working on lighting and shading to create realistic materials, including skin. You will even learn to create a realistic eye! Finally, you will Kris will add hair using both fibermesh and the maya hair system, add some finishing touches and produce a final render.
