- This forum is a relaxed contrast to challenges. Its just a bit more chilled. Where challenges are for the intense mortal combat of sculpting against a timeline here you want to grab a beer or a glass of wine and share your process and your results.

....i was going for that goofy Star wars "roger roger" style of robot. ..... a quickie if you will.
Well...it was supposed to bit more low key of a model..
But the wings killed that idea.
Still at this point im even considering making a shell for the torso and well as the head...for a few weeks I've been trying to get away from this idea that it's based off of Geiger's Alien design....the droid used to have a tail.....

The second you added the legs and the wings the robot lost its identity to me. The torso design is a great fit for more slender and traditional proportions. The design of the toes are going into an even third direction with that bio-mechanical look where the original torso is more primitive.
Perhaps you can tie everything back together with some kind of bio-mechanical looking exo-suit that stacks on top of the older looking mechanical design. If you have wings you'll need engines if you want to incorporate plausible functionality.
That's my take on this.
The cool thing is you have elements that can create multiple cool designs, it's just separating those elements and then fleshing them out with consistent pieces.

YEAH IT'S A FAILURE AS A DESIGN
forest for the trees they say
thanks for the shake up
least i know they don't look bad
As i got more comfortable with dynamesh and the assisting tools; you can see the transitions.
Now it's time to go back to the idea i had before.... IG-88 style with a VERy long carbine rifle. a bounty hunter
that's one verson
The other ? more Masume Shirow style
WINGS AND LEGS MATCH...new head is in order as well as armored, BIGGER arms.
As i said before; I'll add a more sleek torso shell.... might as well go all Appleseed with it and try to add a human cockpit with secondary arms somewhere.
at first i was like BIO-MECHANICAL FEET!?? but your right
1 it doesn't fit
2. it has TOES!!
Going more with a tire/shoe-shell style foot.... i think it'll fit better and wont give me as many issues as the armor plates for the feet did....YIKES.
Dynamesh was making all kinds of crazy Swiss cheese holes even after thickening the front and back...very frustrating but solved...plus the design wasn't that great anyhow.
Far as engines go?. .. I'm going more in the direction of a anti grav unit attached to the wings.
thanks for the input i truly appreciate your feedback
Now i have two models instead of one; and that nagging feeling i had about this practice work has been answered.
Cheers

the dynamesh option truly does change how you work
this would take weeks and a decent amount of planning in 3ds max.
Next hands & Feet
Mr William Thanks again for your feedback it's allowed me to focus as im going along.
The tool is so dynamic it's easy to get lost in the details.
happy new year

That's looking very cool Walt. Plus it's consistent design through the whole piece. Keep working!
